Explore our vineyard Terroirs
Our estate covers 52 hectares of vines divided into different plots on four of the most prestigious appellations of the Northern Rhône Valley: Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Cornas.
The deep knowledge of each of our terroirs allows us to extract the best of each plots to make beautiful blend and single vineyard selection.
Hermitage
The secret of this prestigious Grand cru comes from several terroir on only 120 hectares of this wonderful hill. Our specific terroir is composed by limestone soil, quartzite pebbles and granitic crystals. Old Syrah vines planted 60 years ago, provide a Syrah full of freshness and elegance. In the palate, the finesse of the Hermitage is expressed by aromas of blackcurrant and violet with a velvety length.
Crozes-Hermitage
The vineyard is divided into three terroirs. The most southern part are located in Beaumont-Monteux and in Pont-de-l’Isère. Thanks to clay-limestone soil and large pebbles left by the Rhône, Syrah grape, emblematic varietal of Northern Rhone Valley, will develop here liquorice and spice aromas.
The Mercurol plots, located close the «les Chassis» hamlet, are composed of deeper chalky-clay soil with big pebbles. The aromatic expression of syrah is here on expressive black and red fruits. Finally, the vineyard of “Terres blanches de Larnage”, located behind the Hermitage Hill, differs from the others by its granite soil, resulting from the last foothills of the Massif central on a kaolin vein (white lands), which offers full aromatic and deep full-bodied wines.
On these different terroirs, Roussanne and Marsanne express the subtlety of the white Crozes-Hermitage with notes of white flowers, apricot and honey .
Saint-Joseph
Soil composed of granite, the terroir of the appellation Saint-Joseph pushes vine roots to dive deep on the ground to find minerals.
Thanks to the altitude (380 m) Syrah from red Saint Epine is well-known for its freshness and elegance, and offers nice bouquet of aromas on blackcurrant, licorice and pepper after few years of cellaring. Marsanne of Saint-Joseph white gives floral wines, with a nice minerality and a beautiful length which develop honey notes after ageing.
Cornas
The Cornas appellation is limited to the village of the same name on the right bank of the Rhône. The charm of the terroir come from these beautiful steep terraces retained by small dry stone walls. What about the soil? Granitic and poor, it encourages the roots of the vine to seek the minerals in the depths. Fleshy, mineral and spicy, Syrah expresses all its typicity through powerful and aromatic red wines.
